What a great site! I have really enjoyed listening to some of the
music I played as a young S.A. bandsman. Thank you for all your hard
work in preparing such wonderful "musical memories".

I have been sitting at this computer this morning going thru the
list and playing them, thought I had better stop a while. Man they
bring back too many memories...listening to some of those Songsters
and solos pieces can make the tears flow.. Whatever has happened to
our Army and the beautiful music??????

I forwarded your web site to my son, a SA officer in Canada, he is
going to put the site in his Corps newsletter. I have already
E-mailed quite a few friends here and back home in N. Ireland and I
am getting replies all loving the site so keep up the good work. I
have lots of LP`s but have no idea how to put them on the internet
so I will depend on you, God Bless

With your website you have provided an
invaluable resource of old-time Salvation Army music. I
for one will be eternally grateful.

I was recently sent this web site. Fantastic. What a trip down
memory lane. I begun banding in a small corps in the mining town in
Northern Ontario - Kirkland Lake. I still play Eb bass. I am a
retired Officer.
Is it possible to include somewhere 'Divine Communion'. Music by
Arthur Gullidge? God bless.

Thanks for the time you have spent putting this together. It brings
back a lot of memories. I am a third generation Salvationist.
Grandmother was a slum Officer in the east end of London during the
early days of the Army.
I have been trying to locate a recording of the Founder speaking, I
had one but it was damaged in one of our moves.
If you have anything in your files I would be grateful to receive
same.
Many thanks and blessings to you.

Well as we would say it takes me back. Beautiful Canaan I played
that on 2nd cornet with the Blackpool Citadel YP Band under the
leadership Cec Parkinson (and what a guy he was) Thank you

I have only just found your website. Brilliant!! A real emotional
return to my roots. Thank you.

As an ex Salvationist but still in love with the Army I
have been deeply and wonderfully moved by the spirit of the "Old
Army"

Strange how an "Army upbringing" never leaves you! My wife heard me
playing one of the old marches, and her arms involuntary went
through a timbrel routine, and that's after 25years!
Thanks for keeping our heritage alive.

Hi; Love your room - must have been so much hard work. Well Done!
Is it possible to provide a printer friendly page so that the files
can be listed easily?
God Bless You.

What a fantastic collection, and what a lovely surprise to listen
again to some of the records that used to be played in my home when
I was a child some sixty or more years ago. The quality of the
recordings are superb, and dare I say it better than they used to
sound on the old 78" Gramophone. Well done Ian. Thanks for all your
hard work in preserving these. I have to say in the UK we do not
treasure or value our SA history and inheritance as we should.

I enjoyed the recording of 'Jesus came with peace to me' by the
Clapton Congress Hall songsters in 1935. My mother was a member of
the Clapton songster brigade at that time, and amazingly in 1998 my
sister and I were fortunate to sing under the leadership of George
Downes, at the Clapton Salvation Army for their centenary songster
reunion, on my visit from Australia. Many thanks

The quality is amazing! How do you do it? I am trying to preserve
some old LP's of my late father but am struggling with stylus noise
and scratches.

As a collector of all sorts of Army memorabilia I have a number of
old 78's but very few of those on your site. It is great. I played
some to my thirteen year old grandson who had a good laugh at the
sounds but now has some appreciation of what has gone before and
will inspire him in the Lord's service as he aspires to be a cornet
player in this great organisation. Well done and God bless you

I'm positive that myself, my son and my son-in-law and many, many
more past & present Army bandsmen will have happy hours listening.
Thank you.

I was very pleased to discover your site. I just copied "The Old
Drummer" from the record "An evening at the citadel" of the
International Staffband (1961). It was very nice to here the same
piece with violins. I did not expect hear these on a SA-record. I
was a bandman long time ago (till 1975), but still interested in the
SA-music and brassband-music in general.

finding a diamond in the mud! Retired SA bandsman - sure brings back
treasured memories. Thanks

These are fantastic! What a marvellous collection. (As a child and
young adult, I attended Los Angeles Congress Hall corps, which at
that time had a very good band.)

This is really an experience to listen to all these old recordings,
some of which I had once in my possession. Thank you for sharing
these with us and the effort you have made to make this possible. It
is a great pleasure to listen to this music. I think you make a lot
of people happy with it.

I have just discovered your website. It has brought back so many
happy memories of my youth. Herbert Twitchens I Love him Better
Every Day was one of my first army records. I still have several 78s
but no player so this is wonderful. May God richly use your website.

I just wanted to add a hearty personal thanks to you for your
wonderful and deeply-appreciated work on our Lord's behalf. Your
website has been an enormous blessing so far to me, and I wanted to
especially thank you for making it possible for us to listen in
QuickTime. I am discovering so many wonderful new "old songs" and as
a collector of 78rpm records -especially from the earlier years,
your website has been invaluable from that angle as well.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heart for your labor of love
for the Lord's kingdom. I know it will not go unrewarded, but is
already bearing much fruit. May He bless you and your dear wife
abundantly.

I just upgraded from a dial up connection to cable and have been
enjoying the Listen Room for the first time. It is great to hear
some of the old marches and selections such as we played in the NYSB
of which I was a member.

I have only just discovered your site this evening, what a wonderful
find! I come from Salvationist family, my Father prior to his
"Promotion to Glory" in was a player in the Newcastle upon Tyne City
Temple Band, UK, so listening to some of these beautiful pieces this
evening have brought back so many wonderful memories. Thankyou for a
tremendous site and God Bless.

Ian you deserve a Knighthood for such dedicated work. I told our
band about it this morning. I'm also going to put a report in 4 Bars

Ian. We have a funeral arranged here and would like to replay the
'What a Friend' file which features the deceased as one of the three
cornet players on MF346. Is there any chance you can email your file
to us for replay on Friday?

I am both amazed and delighted to have found your website. I used to
play Euphonium as a boy in the 1950s and practiced The Warrior
listening to my granddad's old gramophone. I offer my sincere thanks
and appreciation for the wonderful work you are doing in building
the website and very much look forward to when Vic Saywell (my
boyhood hero) will be downloadable for listening to. |
